With this year marking ASEAN’s (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) 50th anniversary, the Southeast Asian region is enjoying remarkable prosperity – particularly in its contemporary art scene. This exhibition is the perfect introduction to Southeast Asian contemporary art. The lineup of 86 artists and groups spans almost four generations from Montien Boonma (Thailand) and Roberto Chabet (the Philippines); to Asia’s foremost star artists who began attracting attention in the 1990s such as Wong Hoy Cheong (Malaysia), and Tiffany Chung (Vietnam); to artists such as, Ho Rui An (Singapore) and Korakrit Arunanondchai (Thailand) who are attracting international acclaim. With its total population counting around 600 million, multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-faith Southeast Asia has nurtured a truly dynamic and diverse culture.
