Vera Mey 

Independent curator, London

Vera Mey’s work as a scholar and curator has taken her from New Zealand, where she was born, to Singapore, Japan, Cambodia and beyond, giving her a broad overview of artistic traditions across East and South East Asia. In 2014, she became part of the founding team of the NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore, serving as curator of its residencies programme. Since then, she has co-founded the peer-reviewed journal SOUTHEAST OF NOW: Directions in Contemporary and Modern Art and worked as a researcher on the Getty Foundation-backed initiative ‘Ambitious Alignments: New Histories of Southeast Asian Art’ (2015). In 2017, she was part of the curatorial team for the major survey ‘SUNSHOWER: Contemporary art from Southeast Asia 1980s to now’, led by Mami Kataoka of the Mori Art Museum – this was the largest survey to date of South East Asian artists. Mey is completing her PhD, focusing on South East Asian art, at SOAS in London.
