Some three million Scandinavians emigrated to the United States in the late 19th century, bringing with them craft skills and design aesthetics that would prove hugely influential to American manufacturing. This exhibition at the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm (14 October–9 January 2022) – a collaborative effort with LACMA, Milwaukee Art Museum and the Nasjonalmuseet in Oslo – explores the influence of designers such as Eero Saarinen and Alvar Aalto on the likes of Charles Eames, while also exploring how American design culture of the 20th century left its own mark on Scandinavia. Find out more from the Nationalmuseum’s website.
