An acclaimed actor, known for his roles in The History Boys and the BBC series Being Human, Russell Tovey is also a passionate collector and supporter of the arts. Speaking to Artnet News in 2016, he described being given his first work, an edition of Tracey Emin’s Dog Brains, when he was 21, and how, with his pay cheque from The History Boys, he went on to purchase an original Emin monoprint. Tovey has named Tony Lewis, Jamian Juliano-Villani, Torey Thornton, and Wolfgang Tillmans as some of his favourite artists in his collection; as it has developed, Tovey has become increasingly interested in works on paper. He is is a member of the supporters circle for Tate’s Art Now programme and a patron of the Chisenhale Gallery and Studio Voltaire in London.
