Robert Indiana: Sculpture 1958–2018

This week’s Art Diary takes in the current exhibition highlights from sculpture parks around the world

Robert Indiana is perhaps best known for his series of LOVE prints and sculptures. This show at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (until 8 January 2023) takes in the full span of his career, from early collages through to the more recognisable large-scale sculptures. Taking place both inside the YSP’s central Underground Gallery and throughout the park, the exhibition opens by highlighting the artist’s long-standing support of social justice issues with the display of small-scale works such as Mississippi (1965) and Love Rising (The Black and White Love) (1968), created in response to the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Outside the gallery, the works from the artist’s six-foot-high aluminium series ONE Through ZERO (The Ten Numbers) (1980–2001) are presented in sequence, while the inescapable LOVE sculptures go on display by the entrance to the park.
