While museums around the world are shuttered due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Apollo’s usual weekly pick of exhibition openings will be replaced by a selection of digital initiatives providing virtual access to art and culture.
Crowned by Rembrandt’s The Night Watch, the Gallery of Honour in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is the most concentrated collection of Dutch masterpieces in the world. With the museum’s newly released and easy-to-navigate virtual tour, it’s now possible to get up close and personal with several of Rembrandt’s paintings, along with works like Vermeer’s The Milkmaid and Frans Hals and Pieter Codde’s The Meagre Company. Audio guides and textual descriptions provide analysis of key paintings, while for The Night Watch there is a wealth of materials covering every aspect of the painting’s history, composition, and ongoing restoration. Take the tour on the Rijkmuseum’s website.
