Fish’s Whisper, 2015
Wallace Chan
This Chinese jeweller is a phenomenon, creating flights of fancy in gemstones that are not so much jewellery as wearable sculpture. Underlying his opulent aesthetic is a Zen Buddhist philosophy and an impressive track record for technical innovation. The ‘Wallace Cut’ extends traditional intaglio carving techniques by exploiting a flaw in a stone to create multiple images. This bangle tells of the love of two fish carved on water-clear crystal.
