Although two-dimensional rather than three, this joyful gouache seems closely related to Calder’s brightly coloured sheet-metal mobile sculpture. The forms seem to hover above the surface of the paper and pulsate with energy. Shapes suggestive of suns and moons hang in the vivid yellow sky while the sinuous forms below refer to the Scottish monster of the title.
