Founding Director, Carbon 12, Dubai
In 2008, Nadine Knotzer and her husband, Kourosh Nouri, moved from Vienna to Dubai to establish Carbon 12. It was one of the first galleries to take up residence at Alserkal Avenue, the former industrial district that is now the heart of the city’s contemporary art scene. The gallery has brought an international programme to Dubai, featuring artists such as Sara Rahbar, Olaf Breuning and André Butzer and, earlier this year and at Knotzer’s instigation, mounting an exhibition of collages by the nonagenarian Viennese artist Elisabeth Wild. Carbon 12 was the first gallery from the region to join the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA), which has led to a strong focus on art fairs in the US – with booths at NADA Miami, Dallas Art Fair and the Chicago Invitational.
