Collector and Patron, Dubai
Mohammed Afkhami began his own art collection in 2004 with paintings by Sirak Melkonian, and has since acquired some 600 works of modern and contemporary Iranian art. In 2017 part of his collection was presented in ‘Rebel, Jester, Mystic, Poet: Contemporary Persians’, an exhibition at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. Afkhami is a founding member of the British Museum’s Contemporary and Modern Middle Eastern Art (CaMMEA) acquisition group, co-chair of the Guggenheim’s Middle East and North African art acquisition committee, and a patron friend of both the Sharjah Art Foundation and the Aga Khan Museum. Afkhami is the founder and managing partner of the Dubai-based commodities consultancy MA Partners DMCC, and of Magenta Capital Services.
