While some museums remain shuttered due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Apollo’s usual weekly pick of exhibitions will include shows at institutions that are now reopening as well as digital projects providing virtual access to art and culture.
The works assembled in the first years of the 20th century by Wilhelm Hansen and his family for their home at Ordupgaard, outside Copenhagen, were described by a contemporary French critic as ‘perhaps one of the richest and most complete collections’ of 19th-century French painting outside France. A selection of 60, many of which have never been shown in the UK before, is on display at the Royal Academy of Arts in London until 18 October; it includes masterpieces by Degas, Manet, Monet and Morisot, and concludes with an exceptional group of eight canvases by Paul Gauguin.
