Gallery: MFA Boston’s new galleries

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston announced the opening of two newly refurbished galleries this week.

The Kunstkammer Gallery is a modern recreation of the ‘art rooms’ or ‘curiosity cabinets’ that were highly fashionable across Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries. It houses everything from miniature Renaissance portraits and sculptures to natural wonders such as precious stones, ostrich eggs and coral.

The gallery of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism in France contains 33 paintings and six sculptures by avant-garde French artists active in the late 19th century. It is the one of the museum’s most visited rooms and reopens after a four-month makeover.
