A new exhibition at the Holburne Museum in Bath sets Julian Opie’s contemporary art against historic items from the artist’s own collection. Throughout his career, Opie has collected the art of the past, from Japanese prints, to old master paintings and antique sculpture. How does Opie’s collecting inform his own work, and vice versa? And how might displaying these items together affect our impressions of them?
