Fifty years after it first opened, Gio Ponti’s fortress-like Martin Building – the only completed structure in the United States by the Italian architect – has now been refurbished and expanded by Machado Silvetti and Fentress architects, making room for more of the Denver Art Museum’s encyclopaedic collections. Galleries have been comprehensively rehung, with spaces devoted to separate aspects of the DAM’s holdings – from Latin American art to works from Alaska and the north-west coast. Silvetti and Fentress have also designed a new welcome centre for the museum campus, linking the Martin Building with the Hamilton Building (built in 2006). Having been partially closed since renovations began in 2017, the museum reopens in full on 24 October. Find out more from the DAM’s website.
