Moscow-born Dasha Zhukova is a major player on the international art and social scenes. She is the driving force behind the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow, which opened in 2008 in a former bus terminal and has since relocated to Gorky Park. She and partner Roman Abramovic are now developing ‘New Holland’, a 19-acre island in St Petersburg, into a similar creative hub. For all her media and fashion projects, art remains her first love: she and Abramovic recently bought the world’s largest collection of works by Ilya Kabakov. She has donated significantly to institutions including LACMA.
