While museums around the world are shuttered due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Apollo’s usual weekly pick of exhibition openings will be replaced by a selection of digital initiatives providing virtual access to art and culture.
The Dallas Museum of Art unveiled its newly reinstalled European Art Galleries just last year. Visitors can now see the collection of some 150 works, recently boosted by a bequest of Impressionist and modern works from Eugene and Margaret McDermott, via a virtual tour created used Matterport 3D scanning technology (so you can experience the tours in virtual reality, if you have a VR headset). As you navigate the galleries, collection highlights are signposted, with blue dots offering traditional wall texts and red dots an audio commentary from the curators Nicole R. Myers and Julien Domercq. A smattering of green dots, meanwhile, link to various short videos and webpages with further information on the collection and its recent reinstallation. Visit the museum’s website to begin exploring.
