Chair of GSA board promises Mackintosh building will be a working art school again | Muriel Gray, chair of the board of Glasgow School of Art, said yesterday on BBC Radio’s Good Morning Scotland that the Mackintosh building will definitely be rebuilt as a functioning art school. The cost of repairing the building after the devastating fire in June has previously been reported to be approximately £100m, but Gray believes this figure was ‘plucked out of the air’ without full knowledge of the building’s condition. While it remains unclear what the actual cost of what is likely be a 10-year rebuild will be, Gray promises full transparency.

Manuela Moscoso announced as curator of Liverpool Biennial 2020 | Manuela Moscoso was today announced as curator of the Liverpool Biennial 2020. Moscoso is currently senior curator at Tamayo Museo in Mexico City but will be moving to Liverpool to work with the Liverpool Biennial team led by director Sally Tallant.  

Knight Foundation launches $5m Art and Technology Fund in Philadelphia | The Knight Foundation has launched a $5m Art and Technology Fund to benefit two of Philadelphia’s most prominent cultural institutions. The Philadelphia Museum of Art will be using the grant to provide new technology that can enhance the visitor experience while the Barnes Foundation is planning to open a digital engagement centre.

Hauser & Wirth to open gallery in St. Moritz | Hauser & Wirth has announced plans to open a new gallery in St. Moritz in Switzerland this December. Designed by architect Luis Laplace, the space at Badrutt’s Palace Hotel will be 4,400 square feet and its inaugural exhibition will be devoted to Louise Bourgeois. The new gallery will be Hauser & Wirth’s ninth space.

David Zwirner to join Fraenkel Gallery in representing the estate of Diane Arbus | David Zwirner has announced that it will collaborate with Fraenkel Gallery in representing Diane Arbus’s estate. Fraenkel Gallery, which has a long  association with the estate, will work with David Zwirner to curate presentations of the photographer’s work at their galleries, the first of which will be an exhibition in New York of Arbus’s Untitled (1969–71), which will include several images from the series that have not been seen before.

Louis Marchesano appointed senior curator of prints, drawings, and photographs at Philadelphia Museum of Art  | Louis Marchesano has been named the senior curator of Prints, Drawings and Photographs at Philadelphia Museum of Art. He comes to the role after 16 years at Getty Research Institute, where he was curator of prints and drawings. Marchesano replaces Innis Shoemaker, who retired earlier this year.
