Introducing Rakewell, Apollo’s wandering eye on the art world. Look out for regular posts taking a rakish perspective on art and museum stories
Rakewell is sad to hear that Bougie London Literary Woman (@BougieLitWoman) is leaving the Twittersphere (for now). The bookish young Londoner, fond of ‘a sharp brogue’ and devouring pomegranates in the bath ‘seed by gleaming seed’, gathered more than 15k followers in a mere two months on the platform, her tongue-in-cheek pseudo-literary utterances attracting interviews with the Guardian and Vice. Apparently reluctant to capitalise on her new-found status as niche Twitter darling, she tweeted earlier this week: ‘Social media and creativity have ever been uneasy bedfellows. And so, with heavy heart, I am taking a break from Twitter in order to devote myself to my forthcoming debut novel, a prose-poetic reworking of the Ring Cycle set in contemporary Berlin.’
Rakewell could hardly fail to approve of her rakish profile picture, Ramon Casas’ Decadent Young Woman (After the Ball) (1899), and hopes she swiftly abandons Wagner to return to the delights of her chaise longue. For now, it’s time to set aside that Aubrey Beardsley catalogue for a minute to enjoy some of her art-related tweets:
Giving myself the treat of a pilgrimage to Charleston. If my last visit is reliable indication, by the time I reach the bedrooms I expect to be so overcome with joie de livres that I shall be openly weeping

Though resplendent, the Burne-Jones exhibition has left me with agonising gown envy. Have trotted up to the Members Room to sulk over a fig.

Running a touch late ce matin as I’ve been distracted by a particularly beautiful cornice molding

Wretched with a cold, but bundled up with Cusk and a fresh mint tea. The mint was home-grown on my balcony, in a favoured cyan pot I salvaged from a skip outside the Dulwich Picture Gallery
