Founder, Small Data Industries, New York
How do you fight the battle against built-in obsolescence? Having worked in digital media conservation at both the Museum of Modern Art in New York and Rhizome, in 2017 Cass Fino-Radin set up Small Data Industries, a business that supports clients, including major museums and artists or their estates, in preserving and archiving digital art and cultural heritage. Past clients include the Whitney, Dia, MoMA, Cory Arcangel, Sondra Perry and the estate of Louise Bourgeois. Fino-Radin, who also hosts a popular podcast called Art & Obsolescence, has led workshops on digital conservation in Hong Kong, Basel, Brussels, Mexico City and New York. This autumn they will launch Archive Academy, a new online training programme aimed at making the conservation of digital and time-based media more accessible.
