Artist and writer, New York
Aria Dean’s art and writing is particularly interested in the relationship between Black culture and identity and the internet. Until earlier this year she was editor and curator of Rhizome, the platform for born-digital art and culture, where she had worked since 2016 and helped launch the Net Art Anthology – a landmark archive, publication and exhibition charting the history and possible futures of net art. She is now a creative development executive at SunHaus, an LA-based company that develops film work by Black artists. Her writing has appeared in publications including e-flux, Artforum, Spike and Art in America, and her artistic work has been exhibited at the Hammer Museum (Los Angeles), MIT List Visual Arts Center (Cambridge, MA) and Albright-Knox Art Gallery (Buffalo), among other venues.
