Donatien Grau

By Apollo, 27 August 2014

This young French cultural critic is making his name with big subjects and bold ideas. His first book, Tout contre Sainte-Beuve (Grasset, 2013), took a new line on Marcel Proust; his second, The Age of Creation (Sternberg Press, 2013), explored the meaning of artistic creativity in post-Romantic culture. Grau’s writing on art and culture has appeared in a wide range of publications, including AnOther Magazine, the White Review, Art Press and The Brooklyn Rail. Currently a member of New College, Oxford, he is proof that criticism and serious scholarship need not be dissevered.
