Vancouver Art Gallery receives gift of $40m for new building | The Vancouver Art Gallery in Canada has received a donation of $40m (CAD), which will go toward the building of a new home for the gallery. The gallery has also now revealed the final designs for the $350m building by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. The gift was made by the Chan family; the building will be named the Chan Centre for the Visual Arts.
Tate and Hyundai launch research centre for non-Western art | The launch of the Hyundai Tate Research Centre: Transnational, focusing on art beyond Europe and North America, has been announced. The centre will be funded by Hyundai from now until December 2024; the company will also continue to support the Turbine Hall commission at Tate Modern.
John Ashbery’s library donated to Harvard | The library of the late American poet John Ashbery has been donated to the Houghton Library at Harvard University by Ashbery’s husband David Kermani. The donation comprises more than 5,000 books in a range of genres, dating back to the poet’s undergraduate days, and includes many annotated editions of poetic, critical and philosophical texts.
