Thomas P. Campbell to direct Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco | The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF) announced Thomas P. Campbell as their director yesterday. Campbell resigned as director and chief executive of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in February 2017, a position he had held since 2009 after having joined the museum as a curator in 1995. In an unexpected turn of events he will be replacing Max Hollein at FAMSF, who left the institution earlier this year to fill Campbell’s former position at the Met. Campbell starts the role on 1 November.

Venice museums reopen following city’s worst flood in a decade | Museums have reopened in Venice after having been forced to close during the city’s worst flood in at least 10 years. The Peggy Guggenheim Foundation, the Prada Foundation, the Architecture Biennale and the institutions under the Fondazione Musei Civici Veneziani all closed on Monday (29 October) but have since reopened to the public, reporting no damage to their interiors. The recent floods have put pressure on the ongoing efforts of the MOSE Venezia project to create mobile barriers that could protect the city from rising tides in the future.
