Jake and Dinos Chapman now represented by Blain|Southern | London’s Blain|Southern gallery has announced that it will now be representing Jake and Dinos Chapman. The Chapmans, who previously exhibited with White Cube, have ‘created one of the most distinctive oeuvres in contemporary art’, says the gallery. Their first exhibition for Blain|Southern will be announced in the coming months. According to The Art Newspaper, a spokesperson from White Cube said the brothers had ended their relationship with the gallery ‘by mutual agreement’, adding that long term White Cube employee Craig Burnett’s move to Blain|Southern to become director of exhibitions last year had nothing to do with the split.
South Korean artists sue impeached president | A group of 461 artists have filed a lawsuit against recently impeached South Korean president Park Geun-hye, her former culture minister Cho Yoon-sun and her chief of staff, Kim Ki-choon. The lawsuit seeks the equivalent of nearly $900 per artist, following revelations that a ‘blacklist’ was being used by the culture ministry to stifle financial support for artists critical of the regime.
Isaac Julien appointed Art Fund trustee | Artist and filmmaker Isaac Julien has been appointed to the board of the Art Fund, which supports galleries and museums in the UK. He will serve a five year term. ‘I feel honoured to be joining the board for Art Fund, a charity I have long admired for their commitment to growing public collections, and access to them, for everyone across the UK’, said the British artist, who has won fame for his powerful film installations. ‘I look forward to bringing my knowledge of contemporary art and artists film to the incredible expertise of the board.’
Paddle8 announces further layoffs | Following its split with Auctionata, the online auction platform Paddle8 is to make a series of widespread layoffs, reports ARTnews. According to the article, redundancies are expected at its offices in New York, London and Los Angeles.
