Quentin Bajac to direct Jeu de Paume in Paris | The French curator Quentin Bajac, who for the past five years has headed the photography department at MoMA in New York, has been appointed as the next director of the Jeu de Paume in Paris, it was confirmed yesterday. Bajac succeeds Marta Gili, who announced her resignation in June and departed in October after 12 years as director of the centre for photography and media art. Prior to joining MoMA, Bajac held positions at the Centre Pompidou and Musée d’Orsay.
Kapwani Kiwanga wins 2018 Sobey Art Award | The Ontario-born artist Kapwani Kiwanga was awarded the 2018 Sobey Art Award yesterday evening at a gala at the National Gallery of Canada. Kiwanga is the 15th winner of the award, presented annually to a Canadian artist under the age of 40. Her prize will be $100,000 (CAD), with $25,000 going to each of the other four shortlisted artists: Jon Rafman, Joi T. Arcand, Jeneen Frei Njootli, and Jordan Bennett.
Annie Fletcher appointed director of IMMA | Annie Fletcher has been appointed as the new director of IMMA, the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), it was announced today. The former director of the museum in Dublin, Sarah Glennie, departed late last year to direct Ireland’s National College of Art and Design; for the past 11 months interim director Moling Ryan has been leading the institution. Fletcher comes to Dublin from the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, where she currently serves as chief curator. She begins her new role at IMMA in March next year.
Everson Museum of Art gets $4.8m fundraising campaign boost | The Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, New York has received a $4.8m donation from museum trustee Paul Phillips and his wife Sharon Sullivan. The money will go towards the 50-year-old museum’s $17m capital campaign, launched this September to raise funds for several initiatives – including a renovation of its I.M. Pei-designed building and the creation of a new centre for ceramics.
