Palestinian Museum wins 2019 Aga Khan Award for Architecture | The Palestinian Museum in Birzeit is the winner of the 2019 Aga Khan Award for Architecture. Designed by the Irish firm Heneghan Peng Architects, the museum will receive a share of the $1m prize, which is being allocated equally among six of the 20 shortlisted entries. The other five recipients are the Wasit Wetland Centre in Sharjah, the Alioune Diop University Teaching and Research Unit in Bambey, Senegal, the Public Spaces Development Programme in the Republic of Tatarstan, the revitalisation of Muharraq in Bahrain and the Arcadia Education Project in Bangladesh.
Chinese billionaire and founder of private Shanghai art museum arrested | Chinese billionaire and art collector Dai Zhikang, who is chairman of Zendai Group and the founder of the Shanghai Himalayas Museum, gave himself up to the police on Thursday after the shutdown of Zendai’s online lending platforms last month. He is being investigated for embezzling funds and illegal fundraising as part of a government crackdown on China’s P2P lending sector.
London dealer Joseph Nahmad receives suspended sentence for assault | London-based dealer Joseph Nahmad received a 14-week suspended sentence and 20 days in rehab at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, after being arrested for assaulting an ex-partner in October 2018 and March this year. Nahmad pleaded guilty to the two charges of assault on 30 July, but the judge cited the dealer’s decision to see a counsellor and positive character references as reasons for the suspended sentence. Nahmad has also been issued with a restraining order.
