The Frist Art Museum explores how the Italian city blossomed during the Middle Ages
In the 13th and 14th centuries Bologna blossomed into an intellectual hub; home to the oldest university in Europe, the city became the foremost centre of manuscript production in Italy and supported a thriving community of scribes, artists, scholars and booksellers. This display at the Frist Art Museum in Nashville (5 November–30 January 2022) includes some 70 objects, ranging from law textbooks to illuminated manuscripts, sculptures and paintings.
