European institutions are increasingly looking to young British talent as they seek to fill top jobs. Martin Clark took the helm of the Bergen Kunsthall, Norway, in September 2013, following a six-year stint as artistic director of Tate St Ives. There, he oversaw an ambitious exhibition programme, attracting international artists such as Alex Katz and Heimo Zobernig to the Cornish gallery, and interspersing eclectic group shows – on British art and magic, for instance – with major single-artist surveys. Cornwall’s loss looks set to be Bergen’s gain.
