31 | Founder and Director, Frutta Gallery, Rome, Italy and Glasgow, UK
After six years in Italy, Scottish gallerist James Gardner has returned to his hometown, opening a second gallery space in Glasgow earlier this year. When he started out in 2012 with the one-roomed Frutta in Rome, he was only 24 years old and the gallery quickly gained a reputation for ironic and experimental installation shows from its very first, ‘The Museum Problemʼ, which featured more than 20 international artists who took visitors on neighbourhood tours that ended at the local bar. Frutta primarily represents younger, emerging artists, many of them British and Italian, including Gabriele De Santis, Stephen Felton, and Lauren Keeley. Upcoming solo shows are planned for Holly Hendry in Rome and France-Lise McGurn in Glasgow.
