Founder, Tumurun Museum, Surakarta
Iwan Kurniawan Lukminto founded the Tumurun Museum, Surakarta, in 2018 to house the extensive collection of modern and contemporary art amassed by the Lukminto family, founders of the Indonesian textile giants Sritex. The central idea behind the curating of the exhibits at the museum is to inform audiences about the history of Indonesia within a wider global context. The museum contains some 250 works by Indonesian artists – among them Eddy Susanto, Wedhar Riyadi, Srihadi Soedarsono – as well as international artists, ranging from 19th-century Dutch landscape painters such as Maurits van den Kerkhoff and Mari ten Kate to the Viennese modernist Roland Strasser. Through talks and other programming at the museum, Lukminto has also worked to promote local awareness of art conservation practices.
