ICA to honour Homi K. Bhabha | The Institute of Contemporary Arts in London has announced that it will honour Homi K. Bhabha, scholar and theorist of postcolonial culture, at its Annual Dinner this year. Prior to the dinner on 30 September, Bhabha will deliver a public lecture on ‘The Language of Degradation’ in contemporary politics, at a location to be confirmed. He is the third public figure to be honoured by the ICA, following Chelsea Manning last year and Bryan Ferry in 2017.
US tariff on Chinese art and antiquities to take effect in September | Donald Trump’s new 10 per cent tax on Chinese art, antiques and antiquities entering the US will be enforced after 1 September, according to a revised list of tariffs released by United States Trade Representative on Tuesday. The tax on cultural artefacts made in China is being enforced despite the fact that the introduction of tariffs on some other Chinese products has been delayed until December.
National Gallery reveals underdrawings beneath Leonardo’s Virgin of the Rocks | The National Gallery in London has released images of underdrawings discovered beneath Leonardo da Vinci’s Virgin of the Rocks, which reveal its initial, abandoned composition. The result of new scientific research carried out with the latest imaging techniques for the gallery’s forthcoming exhibition, ‘Leonardo: Experience a Masterpiece’, the discovery shows that Christ and the angel were originally positioned higher up with the angel facing out and embracing Christ more closely.
