With the largest collection of British studio ceramics in the UK, it is clear why York Art Gallery decided to dedicate part of its recent £8 million development to building a new Centre of Ceramic Art (CoCA). Housed in two new gallery spaces, CoCA showcases the gallery’s extensive archive ranging from prehistoric pieces to works by contemporary potters like Grayson Perry. Almost 2,000 works are on display including a new commission by ceramist Clare Twomey to celebrate the launch. Here are some of the highlights.
York Art Gallery reopens and launches the new Centre of Ceramic Art on 1 August.
