Last week, to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, 14–18 NOW coordinated a series of moving art commissions under the title ‘Lights Out’. On 4 August, in Edinburgh, London, Belfast and Bangor, lights were extinguished and the artists’ public commissions lit to inspire a moment of reflection and commemorate those involved in the war that began one hundred years ago. This morning, the last of these artworks still lit – spectra by Ryoji Ikeda, commissioned by Artangel for 14–18 NOW at Victoria Tower Gardens – faded as the sun rose.
‘Lights Out’ was a series of commissions coordinated by 14–18 NOW. Find out more about the project.
