Head of Modern Art, Asia, Sotheby’s Hong Kong
As head of the Sotheby’s Modern Art department in Asia, Felix Kwok has played a major role in developing the market for modern art in the region.Among the sales that he has led since 2015 are ‘Ineffable Beauty: Sanyu’s Figure Drawings’, ‘Postwar Asian Art’ and ‘Movimento Punto’. He named the department ‘Modern Art, Asia’ when he was appointed head in 2020, with the intention that these sales would integrate Western art into the Asian market. Since then, the Modern Art Auctions have topped the record for the sale of works by Pablo Picasso in Asia and set the world auction record for the late French-Chinese painter Chu Teh-Chun. Kwok is also an auctioneer at Sotheby’s and a regular speaker at educational institutions, including the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Tsinghua University in Beijing, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, and the Hong Kong Tsz Shan Monastery Buddhist Art Museum.
