While museums around the world are shuttered due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Apollo’s usual weekly pick of exhibition openings will be replaced by a selection of digital initiatives providing virtual access to art and culture.
This virtual tour shows rooms two to seven of the Courtauld Gallery before it closed for renovation in September 2018, and allows you to zoom in on each artwork in Samuel Courtauld’s collection, close enough to see the brushstrokes (and to read the wall labels). The display progresses through Western art history from the 15th century on, beginning with works by the likes of Botticelli, Cranach and Bruegel, while the later rooms are reserved for the Courtauld’s world-famous collection of Impressionist and post-Impressionist masterpieces, including Manet’s Bar at the Folies-Bergère and Van Gogh’s Self-portrait with Bandaged Ear. Find out more from the Courtauld’s website.
