Founder, Macalline Art Center, Beijing and Shanghai
Founder of the non-profit Macalline Art Center, which opened this year in Beijing and Shanghai, Che Xuanqiao is a champion of experimental art practices and interventions. Current solo shows at the centre include ‘Patty Chang: We Are All Mothers’ and ‘Tong Wenmin: From South to North’. Its inaugural exhibition, ‘The Elephant Escaped’, presented reflections on the post-pandemic era by five young Chinese artists. Xuanqiao’s own collection of Chinese art includes works by Chen Wenbo, Song Yuanyuan and Liu Chuang. Xuanqiao is vice-president of her father’s home and furniture company, Red Star Macalline Group. In 2014, she worked on the ‘M Home: Living in Space’ art project exploring the notion of ‘home’, exhibited in 2014 by Red Star Macalline in partnership with UCCA Center for Contemporary Art.
