The exhibition ‘Art and Optimism in 1950s Britain’, which opens today at mima, seeks to celebrate the optimism felt in Britain during a decade that was nevertheless beset by an economic post-war gloom. While some artists portrayed a sense of apprehension in their work, others openly embraced a feeling of change and progress. Below is a selection of works from the show.
